Privacy Policy

Last Updated: February 2026

TL;DR: We don't collect anything. Your data never leaves your device.

What We Collect

Nothing. Zero. Nada.

We genuinely mean it. NameWheels collects absolutely no personal information:

  • No personal information of any kind
  • No email addresses
  • No names (except the ones YOU add to the wheel, which are stored locally in your browser)
  • No IP addresses
  • No usage analytics or tracking data
  • No browser fingerprinting
  • No account creation or login data (we don't have accounts)

We built NameWheels to be a simple, privacy-first tool. We can't misuse data we never collect.

How We Store Data

All data stays in your browser's localStorage. That's it.

Here's what gets saved locally on your device:

  • Name lists: Saved to localStorage with keys like namewheels_*
  • Theme preference: Your light/dark mode choice
  • Wheel settings: Any customization you've made

Important: This data is NEVER sent to our servers. Why? Because we don't have servers collecting your data. NameWheels runs entirely in your browser.

You can clear all NameWheels data anytime by:

  • Clearing your browser's localStorage
  • Clearing your browser's cache and site data
  • Using your browser's developer tools to manually delete localStorage entries

Cookies

We don't use cookies.

Here's the deal with localStorage vs. cookies:

  • LocalStorage is not a cookie. It's browser-local storage that never gets transmitted to servers.
  • We use localStorage only to save your preferences and wheel data on your own device.
  • No third-party cookies
  • No tracking cookies
  • No advertising cookies
  • No session cookies

You won't find a cookie banner here because there's nothing to consent to.

Third-Party Services

Currently: No third-party services.

NameWheels doesn't integrate with any external services that collect data:

  • No Google Analytics or tracking pixels
  • No social media widgets that track you
  • No CDNs that fingerprint visitors
  • No ad networks (currently)

If we ever add third-party services in the future (like ad networks to support free hosting), we'll:

  • Update this privacy policy immediately
  • Choose only privacy-respecting providers
  • Clearly disclose what data they may collect
  • Provide links to their privacy policies

GDPR & CCPA Compliance

We're compliant by design. Here's why:

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)

  • Right to access: We have no data about you to access.
  • Right to deletion ("Right to be forgotten"): Already implemented—just clear your browser data.
  • Right to data portability: All your data is already in your browser's localStorage. You control it.
  • Right to object: Nothing to object to—we don't process your personal data.

CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)

  • We don't sell personal information (we don't have personal information to sell).
  • No need to email us for data deletion—there's nothing on our end to delete.
  • We don't discriminate against users who exercise privacy rights (because there are no rights to exercise).

No requests needed. No forms to fill out. Your privacy is protected automatically.

Children's Privacy

COPPA compliant and classroom-safe.

NameWheels is safe for users of all ages, including children under 13:

  • We don't knowingly collect data from anyone (including children).
  • No registration, accounts, or personal information required.
  • Teachers can safely use NameWheels in classrooms without privacy concerns.
  • Parents can let their kids use NameWheels without worry.

Because we collect nothing, there's no risk of unauthorized data collection from minors.

Changes to This Policy

We'll update this page if our privacy practices ever change.

What we'll do:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
  • Clearly mark what has changed
  • Keep the previous version accessible for comparison

That said: Changes are unlikely. Our zero-collection approach is core to what NameWheels is. We built this tool to be privacy-first, and that's not changing.
